| 2011 Marks 36th Annual CROP Hunger Walk for Waynesboro
Founded in 1946, Church World Service is a cooperative ministry of 37
Christian communions working together to eradicate hunger and poverty
and promote peace and justice among the world's most vulnerable people.
Within the United States, CWS assists communities in responding to local
hunger and disasters, resettles refugees, promotes fair national and
international policies, provides educational resources, and offers
opportunities to join a people-to-people network of local and global
caring through participation in CROP Hunger Walks and more.
The 36th Annual CROP Hunger Walk was held in Waynesboro this year on September 25, 2011. It began at 2:00 pm at the Amphitheater in Ridgeview Park.
In 2010, the Waynesboro walk was the #1 Walk
in Virginia for funds raised. Since its start, Waynesboro walkers have raised over
$600,000 for Church World Service. Designated local food agencies
have benefited from over $150,000 of that money.
This year, 25% of walk proceeds will be split among these 5 local agencies:
- Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
- Daily Living Center
- Waynesboro Senior Center
- The Salvation Army
- Disciples Kitchen
Disciples Kitchen is extremely grateful to be included in the list of worthy agencies to receive CROP Walk donations. And, we would like to say a sincere "THANK YOU" to event organizers, walkers, fundraisers and Church World Service for your continued generosity and support.
